We got to spend the day with so many wonderful book characters today! I have included a picture just for you to get a taste of how exciting our day was. In addition to spending the day in our awesome outfits, we won the "Playground Peacemakers" award! Such an awesome honor and it is hanging up in the hallway for all to see.
In Math, we have begun studying measurement and the different things you can measure. Some people use inches, feet, centimeters, yards…here in room B4, we use unifix cubes, paper clips, and many other non-standards units of measurement. This past week, we made a tracing of our shoes and had to determine how many unifix cubes long our shoe was. We then placed them in a graph above a number line and got to see what the smallest and biggest shoe size was. On average, our class shoes are about 10 unifix cubes long!
Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers who came with us on our trip across the road to Waller Farm! We had a great time and each got our very own pumping. While we were there, we learned all about farm life. Did you know that the back tires on those big tractors are full of water so that they don't get stuck or turn over? We also got to meet some chickens, goats, adorable miniature donkeys, turkeys, and the famous Purdy Girl! It turns out she is going to have a baby in December! Miss Rogers sees another field trip happening some time in December if we are still in school. Check out some wonderful pictures that Weyland's mom took. It was a fantastic day and we were all struggling to carry our pumpkins back to school.
This quarter in science, we have been working on sorting objects based on physical properties. We decided to have a little fun and sort things based on if we could pick them up with a magnet. Excellent collaboration and team work were seen from every group!
Wow, we have been SO busy that I completely forgot to update our blog! So many wonderful things have been happening in room B4. This past week, we learned all about fire safety and how firefighters are community helpers. We were even so fortunate to have a real life firefighter come visit us and show off his fancy red truck. Pictures will be posted shortly of our wonderful adventures. Thankfully, the rain has finally stopped and we are able to get outside again. It was getting a little tight in our classroom after a full week of indoor recess. If you haven't already signed up for a conference, please do so. I have sent home a second form for those who have yet to do so. This is an important time for me to meet with you and discuss your child's progress thus far. Next week, we will be learning about Pumpkins and will have our very first field trip. Thank you to all of the parents who have signed up to join us. It is sure to be a wonderful afternoon. Have a great weekend and hope you made it out to the Forest View Fall Festival!
Side note: I put a list of the sight words in folders this Friday. Please practice these every night with your child. |
